Position: Conference Manager - Provincial Junior Hockey League of Ontario (PJHL)

Reports To: Commissioner Location: North, South, East, West Conferences of PJHL

Job Purpose
The Conference Manager provides on-the-ground operations and administrative support to the Commissioner and Executive Board of the Provincial Junior Hockey League of Ontario.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Conference Manager of the PJHL reports to the PJHL Commissioner. The duties and responsibilities of the position are:

  • Promote and endorse the PJHL, its member teams, and its philosophy, values and mission statement across the League and to other Leagues under the Governance of the OHA
  • Possess a high level of knowledge and familiarity with the PJHL Members’ Manual of Operations document
  • Assist with interpretation of basic rules/regulations from the Members’ Manual of Operations and refer questions and specific interpretation of rules to the Commissioner for interpretation and/or decision-making
  • Monitor operations of a number of hockey teams in 2 Divisions of 1 Conference of the PJHL
  • Assist in managing the day-to-day administrative, information, and logistical operations of a number of teams in 2 Divisions of Conference of the PJHL, and provide day-to-day, on-the ground operations support for teams
  • Create hockey game schedule for a number of teams within 2 Divisions of 1 PJHL Conference
  • Actively assist with recruiting of new officials within a Conference area
  • Actively assist with recruiting of volunteers across the League
  • Actively assist with recruitment of volunteers from assigned Divisions to stand on PJHL Committees
  • Assist with player recruitment by referring players to teams across the League
     
  • Plan and organize 1-2 Division meetings per year for 2 Divisions within a Conference
     
  • Plan and organize 2-3 Conference meetings per year on behalf of the Commissioner for 1 Conference in the PJHL
     
  • Execute statistician role by working closely with all Division teams in a Conference to accurately record and track game results, player data, etc
     
  • Represent all player and game statistics accurately
     
  • Organize and coordinate monthly and year-end Division awards and creation of an awards program in Divisions where none exists
     
  • Create and build positive and supportive working relationships with member teams in 2 Divisions of 1 Conference, and foster co-operative competitive relationships between teams across Divisions 
     
  • Attend hockey games in an assigned Conference area on a regular basis and liaise with team Governors, GM’s and other team officials regarding operational matters
     
  • Promote, support, and encourage the PJHL’s Standard Operating Procedures across the member teams in a Conference and seek, and support compliance to those procedures
     
  • Monitor well-being of Divisions in their assigned conference including health of individual teams
     
  • Report monthly to the Commissioner on the status and well-being of the Conference member teams
     
  • Provide operations advice and support tailored to individual team challenges
     
  • Maintain regular, on-going liaison with PJHL Commissioner in relation to well-being of the Divisions in an assigned conference, and status and condition of individual teams
     
  • Actively work with teams on promotion including team websites and social media channels

Background & Experience

  • The following background and experience is required:
  • Must live in the PJHL Conference area
     
  • Working knowledge of the Provincial Junior Hockey League
     
  •  Knowledge of the format and structure of the PJHL and its position in Junior hockey in Ontario
     
  • Knowledge of Junior hockey in Ontario
     
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) and its role

Work Environment

  • The work environment for this position includes:
  • Majority of time spent in hockey arenas across Ontario
     
  • Non-traditional, flexible work hours required (evenings; weekends)
     
  • Seasonal busy periods with very high time demands
     
  • Regular travel is required
     
  • Meetings across Ontario are possible but not frequent\

Expense Reimbursement

Conference Managers will be compensated on an expense reimbursement program.
