The Civics are very proud to announce the re-signing of talented New Zealand forward Alex Egan for the upcoming 2019-2020 GMHL season.

Egan is a high energy forward who is entering his third season in the GMHL after initially playing for the now defunct Seguin Huskies in his first season of Canadian junior hockey in which he played 36 games and put up 9 points. Last season with Bradford Egan was having a career season as he had put up 18 Points in 25 Games with the Bulls before the Civics acquired him in January.

Once in New Tec Egan established himself as a hard working player who was willing to do what it takes to help his team win, his grit and grind weren’t the only thing on display as Egan had 5 Goals (7 Points total) in the 11 Regular season games he played for the Civics last year (The Civics went 10-1 in this span and helped secure home ice in the playoffs where they eliminated the Almaguin Spartans in the first round).

His 25 Points in total last season were tops in the league amongst New Zealand born players and 28th amongst North Division U21 Forward (70th Overall League Wide)

In the Civics Off-Season Egan continues to put in work where he plays in the NZIHL (New Zealand Ice Hockey League) for the Canterbury Red Devils.

Egan, the Christchurch, New Zealand native, was excited about coming back to the Civics for this upcoming season and confident about the group for next year, “:My thoughts on last year were pretty good as I got to meet a lot of talented players in the bulls and in New Tec and my expectations for this year is it’s going to be a good year there are a lot of returning players that will help us achieve where we want to be with hard work and drive I think New Tec can make it to the final.”

Egan also has high level international play on his resume where the 5’10” forward has represented his native New Zealand on three separate occasions at the U18 and U20 World Junior Championships in both the D3 and D3B divisions with 10 points in 14 games in international play.

Assistant GM Jordan Richardson was also excited about the 1998 born Egan’s return to the lineup next season, “Alex is a player who works tremendously hard on the ice, he is willing to do it all for himself and his teammates and that is exactly the attitude and work ethic we want in our winning culture next year. Egan is also incredibly liked amongst his teammates with a funny demeanor than can bring joy and laughter to any situation in the locker room, I am definitely looking forward to seeing him have a full season working alongside Coach Dennis and get the most out of the tremendous potential we believe he has.”

Civic Nation is happy to have you back Alex and we are all proud to have you back in the community of New Tecumseth and to see you play a big role on a very successful New Tecumseth team next season.
