Date:  Source: Pierre Trappers

Friday nights contest got off to a start dominated by pitchers.

In the first, Nick Altermatt got the Trappers on the base paths with a two out double. However, Hastings starter Matt Hess got Zane Phelps to strike out to end the frame.

In the bottom of the first, Dominic Parkhurst induced a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning after Alec Lee was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the inning.

Things would remain scoreless until the third inning, where Lee smacked a one out double. Then, after the next batter struck out, J.D. Barrett lined a single to left to plate the first run and give the Sodbusters a 1-0 advantage. After that, Carlos Pinero singled, and Batter would score to double the lead to 2-0 after three.

The fourth saw Hastings plate another run, this time via a double by catcher Carter Sakamoto, driving in second baseman Anthony Cassos.

Pierre looked like they had something brewing in the fifth. Hess began the frame by walking both Johnny Pacheco, his first game in a Trapper uniform, and Bill Moreland. However, Hess retired the next three batters to put out the fire.

Then, in the bottom of the fifth, the Sodbusters continued to grind against starter Parkhurst. After Barrett walked, Pinero laced a triple into the gap, scoring Barrett easily and scoring Pinero one batter later on an RBI flyout courtesy of Derek Bornemier.

Jerson Morales and Nathan Morris combined for three scoreless innings of relief for the Trappers, striking out a combined five and not allowing a hit. However, Pierre managed to scatter just five hits themselves, and eventually fell to Hastings, 5-0.
