SANFORD, Fla--The Seminole County Scorpions were stunned by the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs 14-1 at Sanford Memorial Stadium Monday night, after Winter Park struck for 11 runs in the first two innings of the game.

Winter Park’s bats were rolling in the first inning against the big lefty Ethan Koehler (Valdosta State), making his third start of the season. Joe Butts (Catawba) led the game off with a double and Jason Fointno (West Georgia) followed with a walk. Luke Reidy (Rollins) then came up and hit a three-run home run to deep left field to give the Diamond Dawgs a 3-0 lead.

The offensive production didn’t stop for the Diamond Dawgs as they scored four more runs in the inning, and batted around through the top of the lineup. Coleson Hebble (Swarthmore) hit an RBI single, Adarius Myers (LA Tech) scored on a wild pitch, Butts hit a sacrifice fly, and Fointno added another RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0. Koehler lasted two thirds of an inning giving up seven runs on six hits.

In the top of the second inning, the offensive explosion continued for Winter Park. Michael Morse (St. John’s River) was on the hill and was able to retire the first two batters in the inning, however, Winter Park started a two-out rally. Daniel Carinci (Alabama) reached on an error on a ground ball to third base, which turned out to be costly for Seminole County. Carinci stole second base and scored on an RBI single by Luis Lamarche (Savannah St.). Hebble followed with a two-run blast off the scoreboard in left center field, and Fointno added an RBI single later in the inning to give the Diamond Dawgs an 11-0 advantage.

Winter Park added one run in the third, sixth, and seventh to add on to the convincing win. The Diamond Dawgs scored 14 runs on 16 hits, while the Scorpions scored one run on one hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

After the loss, Seminole County moved to 2-10 on the season. The Scorpions have also lost their last six games, and are 0-4 against Winter Park this season. Head coach Jeff Lemon believes his guys need to put this game behind them and be ready to go against this same team Tuesday night.

“We just have to flush this game as fast as we can with responding no less than 22 hours from now,” said Lemon.

These two teams will meet again Tuesday night at The First Academy. First pitch is set for 7 p.m., and Kyle Brana (Webber International) is expected to make his first start of the season.
