Whalers’ Town, Aviators’ Cohen Secure Weekly Honors

Date:  Source: Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League

Two key players led their teams to the top of the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League standings in the second week of the season. Sag Harbor outfielder River Town (LSU Eunice) was picked as the New Era Cap Player of the Week, while Westhampton’s Harrison Cohen (George Washington) was picked as the Ace Hardware Pitcher of the Week.

Town hit .476 for the Whalers in Week 2. The Zachary, LA native was 10-for-21 with at least one hit in five of the Whalers six games over the course of the week. Town drove in three RBI for Sag Harbor in their 17-1 home victory over the Westhampton Aviators on June 11th. He would have a strong performance on the final day of Week 2 against Riverhead on June 14th. Despite an 11-1 loss to the Tomcats, Town displayed a great performance at the plate going 4-for-4 with a stolen base.

Cohen was masterful in the Aviators 10-0 victory on June 9th over the Southampton Breakers. The Syosset native pitched seven strong shutout innings only allowing three hits. Cohen struck out ten Breaker batters while only giving up one walk.

The HCBL weekly awards are voted on by the league’s seven head coaches each weekend and are announced each Tuesday.
