Waves Use BIG Second Inning to Coast to 10-4 Win

South Kingstown, RI- The Waves used a big, seven run second inning to take an early lead, coasting to a 10-4 final.

After Garrett Hodges (Blairsville, GA/ Kennesaw St) lead off the inning with a double, the Westerners would record two straight outs before the Waves would really get things going. Daniel Seres (Canton, GA/ Kennesaw State) would double to right center, scoring two. Justin Walker would then follow that with a single, driving Seres. Brett Helmkamp (Aliso Viejo, CA/ NJIT) would also single, scoring Walker. The big blast of the inning would come from the bat of Casey Dana (Montgomery, NY/ Seton Hall), a three-run homer, his third of the season, extending the lead to 7-1.

Danbury would score one run in the both the top halves of the third and fourth inning, but Hodges would respond with a solo homerun of his own in the bottom of the fourth, his second of the year, extending the lead back to 9-3.

The Waves pitching looked sharp tonight, as starter Jake Walker (Milton, MA/ URI) went three innings, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out three. The win for Ocean State went to reliever Kyle O’Neil (West Islip, NY/ Felician U), going three innings, also giving up two runs on four hits, while striking out two. The last two pitchers for the Waves all threw three total scoreless inning, Seamus Brazill (Barnegat, NJ/ Hofstra) and Anthony LoRicco (Holliston, MA/ US Military Academy).

The loss for Danbury went to Jason Alvarez, who took his first loss of the year. He lasted two innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits, one walk, and striking out three.

Ocean State improves to 4-6, and will look to continue their momentum Tuesday night when they host the reigning champion Valley Blue Sox. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. from Old Mountain Field, and can be heard online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
