Waves Drop Third Straight against Upper Valley, 9-5

South Kingstown, RI- Jordan DiValerio (Berwick, PA/ St. Joseph’s) shut down the Waves bats Saturday night, throwing six shutout innings, as the Waves dropped the contest against Upper Valley, 9-5.

Upper Valley would strike first in the top of the third on a Dan Bolt (Morton, IL/ Bradley U) RBI single, scoring one. They would extend the lead with three runs in the each of their halves of the fifth and sixth innings, pushing the lead to 7-0.

The Waves showed signs of life in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring four runs off Nighthawks reliever Davis Mikell (Williston, VT/ Castleton). With one out, Elijah Dunham (Evansville, IN/ Indiana) would take a fastball the other way into the Nighthawks bullpen, making the score 9-3. Casey Dana (Montgomery, NY/ Seton Hall) would then go back to back with a solo shot for the Waves fourth run. After two doubles, the rally would fall short, as the game would end on a Dillon Morton (Tampa, FL/ Winthrop U) lineout to left.

Matt Semon (Valley Cottage, NY/ Stony Brook) took the loss for the Waves, going four innings, giving up three runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out six. DiValerio picked up the win, going six innings, giving up only two hits and no walks while striking out five.

The Waves (3-6) look to snap the three-game losing streak on Sunday when they head to Robbie Mills Field in Winnipesaukee to take on the Muskrats. The game is scheduled for 4:05, and can be heard online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
