Waves Give Mystic First Loss of the Season, 10-3

South Kingstown, RI- The Waves took advantage of nine walks, three errors, and 10 hits to end the Mystic Schooners early season win streak, topping them Thursday night, 10-3.

On a day which looked like there would be no chance of baseball, South Kingstown would be the only place in New England that would play an NECBL game. The game would start out with both starters going K for K, with 11 of the first 12 outs being strikeouts. Mystic would get on the board first, when T.T. Bowens (Uncasville, CT/ Central Connecticut) would score on a throwing error after David Beam (Knoxville, TN/ Eastern Tennessee) singled to right, making it 1-0. Beam would then score on a throwing error from Daniel Seres (Canton, GA/ Kennesaw St).

Ocean State would respond with two in the bottom of the third, and would break the game open in the bottom of the fifth. They would take advantage of four walks, three hits, and an error, scoring six runs to make their lead 8-2. The big blow of the inning: a Nick Elsen (Kenosha, WI/ Kent St) two RBI single and a Justin Walker (Lafayette, IN/ Indiana) two run single. They would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, and would go on to win, 10-3.

Liam Dvorak (Bayport, NY/ Holy Cross) started on the bump for Ocean State, going 4 innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out eight. The win went to Anthony LoRicco (Holliston, MA/ Army), two went three innings, giving up only one run on two hits while striking out two. The loss for Mystic went to Trey McLoughlin (Shelton, CT/ Fairfield), who lasted 4.1 innings, giving up four runs (three earned), walking one and striking out nine.

Ocean State (3-4) looks to carry their winning streak on Friday when they travel to Newport for game two of the Pell Bridge Series. The game is scheduled for 6:30, and be heard online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
