Brigden Selected to Tampa Bay Rays

Date:  Source: Canadian College Baseball Conference

He has been one of the top pitchers in the conference over the last three seasons, but this year was a little different for Trevor Brigden of the Okanagan College Coyotes.  The Toronto, ON native had made further progress in the weight room and bullpen in the winter and his fastball had a little more bite on it. After Coyotes Pitching coach Jared Johnson had posted a video of a 94 MPH fastball, it went viral and instantly had the attention of 5 MLB teams.  Over the course of February and March more teams became interested as Brigden routinely was 91-93 each weekend.  It really didn't go to the next level until he was touching 94 and 95 against the VIU Mariners April 13th that the MLB draft was probably going to happen.

"It was an exciting spring, each time Trevor would throw more teams or different MLB teams would be present and expressing interest and he kept getting stronger." says Coyotes Head Coach Geoff White, "He and Coach Johnson have put in so much work over the last three years that he deserves an opportunity,"

The Tampa Bay Rays came calling on day 3 of the 2019 MLB draft taking Brigden 518 overall in the 17th round.

"It is special for our program that we are able to get our first draft pick and it couldn't happen to a better player and person in our program that has put in the work, we wish Trevor and his family all the best as we will follow him over his professional career." finishes White.

It is still unknown at this time where Brigden will be heading and report to.  The Rays minor league complex is in Port Charlotte, Florida.
