Buckley Promoted to DI Head Coach

West Virginia University Hockey General Manager Todd Gookin has announced the promotion of Shane Buckley to the position of Head Coach of the Mountaineers ACHA Division I Program.  Buckley is entering his second season with the Mountaineer hockey program. This past season, he worked with both the D1 and D2 teams as an assistant coach. Prior to coming to WVU, Coach Buckley worked for 3 years as an Assistant Coach for Ashland High School in Wisconsin. While with Ashland, the Oredockers compiled a record of 43-26-0. Coach Buckley also spent two years with Chequamegon/Phillips, one as Head Coach. During his tenure, Team S.E.a.L twice held the highest team GPA in their region, along with the highest in Wisconsin in 2013-14.

 

Coach Buckley played four years of hockey and baseball at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, where he was named to Academic All-Conference Teams three times. Prior to joining the Lumberjacks, Buckley played junior hockey for the Elliot Lake Bobcats and Espanola Kings in the GMHL, where he set a then league record in shutouts and led the league in G.A.A. in the 2008-09 season with the Bobcats.

 

Coach Buckley currently resides in Morgantown and is a teacher with Monongalia County Schools.
