Minot State Clinches Second Men’s D-I National Championship

Minot State University is your 2019 ACHA Men’s Division I National Champions, having defeated Iowa State University 3-1 Tuesday night at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.  Minot netminder Joshua Byowski stopped 33 of 34 shots as Eric Bollefer recorded two points (1g, 1a) to lead the Beavers to its second national championship.

 

Iowa State got on the board first with Trevor Sabo’s goal midway in the first before Minot State evened the score at 1-1 with 1:14 remaining in the period.

 

Bollefer and Johl Swedlo assisted on Shain Scheschuk’s goal just 45 seconds into the middle frame to give Minot a 2-1 lead.  After both teams called timeouts around the two-minute remaining mark, Bollefer scored an empty-net goal with 1.3 seconds left on the clock to give the Beavers their first title since hoisting the Murdoch Cup in 2013.

 

This is Iowa State’s fifth time finishing runner-up in the ACHA National Championship.

 

Minot State captain Blake Fournier was named Men's D-I National Championship MVP.
