Dakota Lumberjacks Start Strong for a New Season

The 2019 ACHA National Championships are underway as the Men’s Division I kicked off Day 1 with four games at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
University of Nevada-Las Vegas (#13) defeated Robert Morris University Pennsylvania (#20) 4-3 in the first game of the day. UNLV alternate captain Joe Kaszupski recorded the 2019 National Championships first hat trick when he scored back-to-back goals in the second period to give the Rebels a 4-2 lead after two periods of play.
UNLV will face Ohio University (#4) Friday at 10 a.m. at Comerica Center.
Missouri State University (#14) defeated University at Buffalo (#19) 4-1 in the second game to advance. Buffalo tied the game at 1-1 late in the first period on a power-play goal before Missouri State scored a pair of goals in the middle frame and one in the third period.
Missouri State will face Adrian College (#3) Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Comerica Center.
University of Oklahoma (#15) defeated Drexel University (#18) 5-4 in the third game of the day. Oklahoma took a commanding 4-0 lead after Hunter Lane scored his second goal of the game at 1:54 in the third period—which saw a total of six goals in the period. Drexel’s Jamie Crane and Eugene Lim each scored a pair of goals in their effort to knock off the Sooners.
Oklahoma will face University of Michigan-Dearborn (#2) at 5 p.m. at Comerica Center.
Robert Morris University Illinois (#17) defeated University of Jamestown (#16) 3-2 in the National Championships first overtime game. Robert Morris-Illinois jumped to a 2-1 lead in the second period after Jamestown got on the board first. Jamestown’s Tyler Leech forced the extra session in third period before Michael Cacciato helped Robert Morris advance.
Robert Morris University Illinois will face top-ranked Lindenwood University at 8:30 p.m. at Comerica Center.
