ELKVILLE, IL - The Springfield Sliders have announced that they have signed 19-year-old, Creighton University sophomore David Vilches to a contract for the 2019 Prospect League Season.

Vilches, a transfer student from Eastern Oklahoma State College, appeared in 57 games for the Mountaineers in his freshman year and hit .318/19 HR/59 RBI and scored an impressive 49 runs earning him Second Team All-Regions honors.

A 2017 graduate from Sheridan High School in Sheridan Arkansas, Vilches, was a 2017 PG Preseason All-American and All-Region Teams, Southeast Region Honorable Mention and an All-Star who earned a spot on the Arkansas All-Star Team, helped the Yellow Jackets win an Arkansas State Championship in his sophomore and senior year. A four-year letter winner for Sheridan High School, Vilches a three-time all-conference selection.

Scout's take, "the Springfield Sliders are getting a quality backstop, with a right-handed power bat that could hit anywhere in the heart of the lineup (3,4 or 5). No stranger to summer collegiate baseball, Vilches played in the Western Canadian Baseball League (WMBL) for the Medicine Hat Mavericks last summer. In 33 games and 108 at-bats, he hit .259, 5 HR, 29 RBI, along with six doubles and two triples. Vilches is athletic in the box, with a sound approach and a powerful swing and productive power in the gaps and over the fences. Defensively, they are getting a sound receiver, with a strong arm, who is used to playing in big games. As a catcher, he has deceptive speed, that allows him to take those extra bases on balls in the gap."
