MACON, GEORGIA – After trading goals with their opponents the first two periods, the Huntsville Havoc scored three unanswered in the final frame to take down the Macon Mayhem 5-2. 

“We played a solid road game tonight,” said Havoc Head Coach Glenn Detulleo. “Getting an early goal was important and it set the tone. The team did a good job in the third period taking care of special teams to seal the win.” 

Tyler Piacentini found the back of the net early, scoring just 1:45 in to the contest to give the Havoc the early lead. Macon (24-20-5) scored deep in to the first to tie up the game at one heading in to intermission. 

The stalemate continued until the 18th minute of the second period when John Schiavo took the puck from the Havoc zone and went on the 2-1 rush against the Macon goalie. Schiavo pulled the trigger and put Huntsville back up by one, but the lead lasted barely over a minute as the Mayhem scored six seconds in to a powerplay to once again even the score. The home team outshot the Havoc 20 to 12 over the first two periods. 

Huntsville (30-14-3) came out on all cylinders in an action-packed third as Derek Perl fired a wrister from a face-off in the Macon end of the ice just 2:37 in to the period, allowing the Havoc to once again retake the lead. After some fisticuffs just past the 9-minute mark of the period, the Havoc went on the powerplay and Rob Darrar made the Mayhem pay with a one-timer to double the lead. Six minutes later, Huntsville capped the scoring with another powerplay goal, this time from Ryan Salkeld, putting the Mayhem to bed 5-2. 

Havoc goalie Max Milosek recorded his 20th win on the season and seventh in a row, stopping 25 of 27 shots. There were 20 infractions handed out between the two teams -- Macon 12 and Huntsville 8.   

Even with the loss, Macon still punched their ticket to the SPHL playoffs this evening courtesy of the Fayetteville Marksmen who defeated the Quad City Storm 5-3.

The Havoc finish the regular season series with the Mayhem on Saturday, March 16. The puck drops at 6:30 p.m. CST. Follow the team on social media to see where you can either watch or listen to the game.
