LIONS WIN 3RD STRAIGHT COLONIAL CUP!

Date:  Source: The College of New Jersey Lions

The Lions came to the rink on Sunday looking to continue their playoff success, seeking their third straight Colonial Cup in their fourth straight Championship game. They took the momentum from Saturday's late win against Penn into the first period and controlled the play, outshooting the Royals 13-4 but were unable to score. The Royals got better as the game went along and started to control the play and they would get the games first goal on a bomb of a slapshot from the top of the right circle, TCNJ would get a power play shortly there after and captain Will Dimock would score 8 seconds into the PP to knot the game at one. TCNJ would get into penalty trouble and the Royals would make them pay, scoring off a faceoff from the high slot, the Lions would push back later in the period but would end the second period down 2-1. The third period began with both teams playing cautiously but the Lions would start to apply the pressure to get the game even. Although the Royals were doing a good job blocking shots and their goalie was playing well TCNJ would eventually tie the game up with just under 8 minutes into the period when freshman Andrew Summa would put home a rebound from a blocked shot just above the crease. Scranton would get into penalty trouble and TCNJ would get an extended 5 on 3 and the captain, Will Dimock would put the Lions ahead on a wrist shot from the hash marks. The Royals would go all out and almost tie the game with two minutes remaining when they had an open net but again Summa would come up with another big play when he dove and blocked the shot with his ribs! Matt Kimak received a penalty on that play and then Jameson Dugan would get another penalty shortly after that giving the Royals a two man advantage which they made a 6 on 3 after pulling the goalie. But freshman goalie Michael Lojewski the D would "lock it down" and the Lions would win their 3rd straight Colonial Cup! Lojewski was an absolute brick wall and would earn the Playoff MVP award.

The Lions also received the autobid to the ACHA Southeast Regionals at Liberty University the weekend of March 1st, their opponent will not be confirmed until next weekend.
