BENI'S LATE GOAL PUSHES TCNJ TO THE FINALS!

Date:  Source: The College of New Jersey Lions

On Saturday night TCNJ played the University of Penn in the semifinals for the fourth straight year. The first period was a very tight, defensive period and would remain scoreless until sophomore forward Matt Lojewski popped home a rebound for the first goal of the game, the period would finish with the Lions leading 1-0. The second period would see more chance for both teams but both goalies stood tall, each finishing with 14 saves in the period. Penn would start to gain some momentum in the third and nine minutes in they appeared to score on a scrum in the crease but the refs ruled it never went in but Penn would end up scoring right off the faceoff however to tie the game at 1. TCNJ would push back and with just under five minutes remaining freshman defenseman Travis Beni would join the rush and put home a rebound off a shot from Anthony De Alto to give the Lions the one goal lead. TCNJ and especially goalie Mike Lojewski would shut the door the rest of the way to take the game 2-1 and advance onto the finals for the 4th straight year! Freshman goalie Mike Lojewski was a brick wall in net finishing with 36 saves!
