Players of the Week: Feb 4 - 10

Date:  Source: Florida Collegiate Summer League

We will be highlighting the top performances of former and future Florida League players throughout the spring. These are the best efforts for games played between February 4-10.

Cooper Cain
RHP - Valdosta State
2017 DeLand Suns

Cain was phenomenal in his start against Wingate on Friday night. Over the course of 6.1 innings, the junior righty allowed only two hits, one unearned run and two walks in his road start. The highlight came in the K column, where Cain set down 13 bulldogs via the punchout. The Blazers won the game 3-1. Cain, who is 1-0 in two starts this year, leads the Blazers in strikeouts with 19 in only 9.1 innings of work. As a member of the Suns in 2017, Cain posted a 2.77 ERA with 21 K in 21.1 innings.

Dillon McCollough
LHP - Eckerd
2017 DeLand Suns

Two weeks into the season, and "Pickles" finds himself on the Players of the Week list for the second time. In his most recent effort, the senior southpaw shut down the Spring Hill Badgers to the tune of eight innings, five hits, zero runs, one walk and ten strikeouts. It was his second 10+ strikeout game of the season, with his total now sitting at 21 in 13.2 innings. Equally impressive is his ERA, which stands at 0.66 on the year. Entering the 2019 season, McCollough needed 128 to break the all-time strikeout record at Eckerd ... he is now only 107 away. We have officially entered #PicklesWatch.

Andres Ugarte
C - Reinhardt
2017-18 Seminole County Scorpions

Ugarte, who over the course of his two years in the Florida League became known for his defensive prowess, showed an improved approach at the plate to start his 2019 campaign. In a three-game set against Pikeville, the junior backstop went 5-11 at the plate, with a single, two, doubles, two home runs, three runs and seven RBI. The Eagles took the series two games to one. Last season as a member of the Scorpions, Ugarte hit a solid .279 and was brought to North Carolina as a member of the Prospect Team.
