NORTH YORK DEFENCEMAN IS KEWL SOUTH-EAST PLAYER OF MONTH

February 6, 2019, Mississauga, Ontario – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) announced today that defenceman Joey Maziarz (Photo by Michelle Malvaso / OJHL Images) has been named the Kewl South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month for January after he tallied 16 points during eight games.

His four goals included two on the power play. Maziarz was assessed one minor penalty during the month.

In his third season with the Rangers, the 19-year-old from Waterloo has 50 points (13 goals and 37 assists) during 49 regular season games. Garrett Pyke of the Oakville Blades leads all OJHL defencemen in points this season with 51.

Committed to NCAA Division 1 Mercyhurst, Maziarz played minor hockey in the GTHL for the Toronto Marlies, Toronto Jr. Canadiens and Vaughan Kings.

The North York Rangers are the 8th-ranked Jr. A team in Canada.

Brock Welsh of the Cobourg Cougars was runner-up to Maziarz as the South-East Conference Player-of-the-Month. The 20-year-old Barrie native had seven goals and nine assists in nine games. He had a power play goal and a game winner.

Welsh has also played for Whitby and Aurora in the OJHL and with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League.
