WINTER BLAST CANCELS BUFFALO'S TRIP TO NEWMARKET

Date:  Source: Ontario Junior A Hockey League

One Ontario Junior Hockey League scheduled for this evening has been cancelled.

Winter weather in the Buffalo area means the Jr. Sabres will not be travelling from Western New York to Newmarket to face the hometown Hurricanes.

According to the Buffalo News:

Day Three of the winter storm pummeling Buffalo won’t pack quite the same punch as Wednesday’s blizzard, but a wide lake-effect band is producing snow fall rates at a rate of up to an inch an hour Thursday morning from Buffalo south to Silver Creek and east into Genesee County.

“It will produce whiteout conditions in the band,” said Aaron Reynolds, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service office in Buffalo.

Snow will vary in intensity and wind gusts may top 30 mph, causing blowing and drifting snow.

The game will be rescheduled during February.

OJHL games in Stouffville, Cobourg, Kingston and Brantford are still scheduled to be played tonight.
