1/25/2019: Slippery Rock University vs Oswego State University Game 1

 

This past weekend, The Slippery Rock Men’s Club Ice Hockey team hosted a two-game home series against Oswego State University

 

Puck drop was 10:00 p.m., the first period started with Slippery Rocks team captain Tommy Kimmick opening the scoring at 14:35. Oswego State decided in the first period to set the tone early with some very physical play. At 7:26 Oswego’s S. ONeil committed the team's first of nine penalties on the night, two minutes for roughing. Mcnamara then followed with a penalty at 11:29, two minutes for elbowing. Even in the penalty-ridden game with a combined total of twelve penalties for thirty-nine minutes neither team able to capitalize. Oswego State went one for three while Slippery Rock University was struggling with zero for nine on the power play.

 

After 1 period of play, SRU 1- OSW 0

 

In the second period of action things began to heat with scoring and aggressive play. Oswego N.Morgan got a hit from behind major penalty and checking from behind DQ penalty at 3:17 that automatically disqualified him from the game. Even the penalty Oswego’s O.Marchi was able to get the equalizer goal at 4:45 assisted by T.Cup. This was followed by Oswego goal at 9:14 and Slippery Rock goal scored by Jaime Mauro at 11:05. The second period ended with four penalties committed by Oswego and three for Slippery Rock.

 

Through two periods of play, we’re tied 2-2

 

Going into the third period you could tell that all the night's animosity had built up to this point and the team that wins will be who could keep their composure. C. Ackerman started off the scoring in the third period with the go-ahead goal at 3:40 for SRU. N.Wilcox made it 4-2 in Slippery Rocks advantage at 13:52. K.Mcnamera brought Oswego back into the game by making it 3-4 at the 15: 06-minute mark. Although Tommy Kimmick added two insurance goals at 18:11 and 19:38 to seal the win for Slippery Rock University. Tommy had a great four-point night for SRU that included a hat trick (3 goals) and added an assist. 

 

Final Score: Slippery Rock 6 OSW 3

Slippery Rock plays game two of the doubleheader 1/26 at home. The game will be SRU’s senior night along with Mayor Jondavid R. Longo dropping the puck at 9:30.

 

 1/26/2019 Slippery Rock University vs Oswego State University Game 2

 

On Saturday, The Rock hosted their senior night and had Mayor  Jondavid R. Longo drop the Ceremonial first puck. Congratulations to the seniors Tommy Kimmick, Sean Patt, Patrick Spaulding, Connor Ackerman, Nate Mettenburg, Anthony Mancini, Karson Frisk, and C.j Campbell

 

The game started out very fast paced. You could tell there was a lot of energy down on the ice as both teams had players taking the puck down end to end chagrining at full speed. Jamie Mauro started things off with the first a goal of the period at 4:02.  T. Gilliland scored the second goal of the period at 6:59. You could tell these teams don’t like each other with them combining for another four penalties in the first period.

 

Through 1 period SRU 2-0 

 

In the second period, Jamie Mauro continued his record-breaking season by scoring his thirty-eight goal and sixty-sixth point of the season. Having already set the Slippery Rock all-time goal record earlier this season with thirty-eight Jamie Mauro is now also within one point of Wes Waldschmidt season point record of sixty-seven. With seven games left and the playoffs, the sky is the limit for Jamie Mauro looking to add to his record-breaking season at Slippery Rock University. O. Marchi scored at 19:32 to pull Oswego State University back within two goals.

 

After 2 periods SRU 2 - OSW 1

 

In the third period, we saw more of the hostility that has been stewing all weekend between the two teams finally boil over. Slippery Rock and Oswego State combined ten total penalties in the third period. Even with all the penalties, neither team could capitalize on their power play opportunities with Oswego State gong zero for seven and Slippery Rock zero for six. C. Miller scored at 14:45 to make it four to one. T.cup scored for Oswego at 17:03.

Tune in Saturday, February 2 at Slippery Rock University travels to take on West Virginia University. Hopefully, Slippery Rock University can fine tune their Power Play unit that went  zero for fifteen this past weekend as the boy's march towards the playoffs.
