Civics land rights to former OHL goaltender Badenhorst among moves

Date:  Source: New Tecumseth Civics

The New Tecumseth Civics made 3 trades prior to this year’s deadline landing them a pair of draft picks and the rights to former local area OHL goaltender Ruan Badenhorst.

Ruans rights were acquired from the London Lakers (who drafted Badenhorst in 4th round this year) in exchange for the rights to Civics 2016 12th round draft pick Bogdan Klochkov who is currently playing professionally in Kazakhstan.

Badenhorst, the 1998 born tendy, last played for the Stratford Warriors of the GOJHL (Greater Ontario Junior ‘B’ Hockey League) where he was named a second team All-Star. The three seasons prior to joining Stratford saw Ruan split time between the Barrie Colts of the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) where he played 35 games and the Orangeville Flyers of the OJHL (Ontario Junior ‘A’ Hockey League) where he played in 24 games.

It should be noted that Badenhorst has not played hockey this season or played in the GMHL yet however the Civics now have his rights should he decide to play in his overage year. The civics would be an ideal spot for him as he has trained in the past and has a good working relationship with current Civics goaltending coach Tye Greschuk from their time at the Canadian Goaltending Academy

In another trade the Civics sent goaltender Mitchell Jacobson (who has not been with the team since November) to the West Nipissing Lynx in exchange for the 9th round draft pick the Lynx acquired from the Pirates in a trade earlier this season.

The Civics made one last move to acquire a draft pick from the Windsor Aces in a deal that saw the Civics send Ivan Subbotin (who had been playing with the Tillsonburg Hurricanes) down south on loan for the remainder of the season. The Civics received a 5th round pick from the Aces in the deal and will get Subbotin back next season

With these moves the Civics are finished making any changes or trades this season and now the entirety of the team's attention is towards a deep playoff run in the Russell Cup playoffs.
