It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernie “Chico” Labute.

He was instrumental in starting the St Clair Green Giants.  As their GM, he lead the Green Giants to their first GLSCL playoff appearance in only their second year in existence.

Speaking of Bernie, Deron Brown said, "In his time with the league, Bernie was the guy who worked hard to better and expand our reach.  He was a great ambassador for GLSCL and summer collegiate baseball as a whole.  He believed in helping college baseball players further their playing career.  He demonstrated this belief through the hard work and dedication he bestowed on all of his players and colleagues."

"Chico was a bigger than life baseball character who loved the game and whose life was consumed with it.  Local baseball has suffered a big loss," said Dave Cooper, the head coach for the St Clair Green Giants.  Bernie was 54 years old.

Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts.
