SANFORD - While there will be a new voice for the Sanford Mainers over the radio waves this coming season, there will also be a new voice heard throughout Goodall Park during home games.

The Mainers organization announced Wednesday that Julia Panepinto has been hired to take over the duties of Public Address Announcer, as well as serve as the in-studio producer at AM 1220/102.3 The Legends during the Mainers away game broadcasts. She becomes the first woman in the Mainers franchise history to fill the role of PA Announcer.

Panepinto is finishing up her junior year at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine where she is majoring in Rhetoric, while also holding a double minor in Education and Spanish. She is a two-sport varsity athlete for the Bobcats, serving as captain on both the volleyball and softball teams.

At Bates, she also serves as president of the Weightlifting team and a representative on the Student Government. She is actively engaged in projects within the Rhetoric Department that demand strong oratory skills and hopes to develop those through a sports lens this summer.

Panepinto’s energy and positive attitude while playing her own sports motivated her to apply for the position, and she plans to bring that same type of excitement to Goodall Park this season.

Panepinto will also be spending her time coaching youth softball this summer for a 12U travel team through the Maine Thunder organization. She will be utilizing her knowledge of the game and experience with speaking to expand her broadcasting abilities and engage with more of the thriving sports culture in Maine.

Panepinto is originally from Buffalo, NY, and while she cheers for the Boston Red Sox, when it comes to football, she is an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
