Men's D-II Ranking Caps 2018 with Same Leaders Despite Central Division Stir

Southeast

The Southeast top ten teams continue to stay the same, with the only changes being Liberty and Miami flipping spots and NC State and Delaware swapping places.  With FGCU and Penn State continuing to have a lock on the top two spots, Cincinnati has emerged from the pack as the clear cut #3 at the semester break.  With the potential for a wild card spot to be open in the region this year, the race for the #11 spot will be one to watch as currently Ohio State is holding the spot, but Saint Joes, Louisville, Maryland, and Kentucky are all close behind.

Central

The Central Rankings were shaken up by a two-game sweep of Grand Valley State by Davenport, last weekend.  Not only did it drop GVSU to #9 and return Davenport to the top 20 at #15, it created movement for 14 other teams in the final ranking of the semester.  While Aquinas remains the clear #1 team, the race for the second National Autobid continues to tighten. Marian, Lindenwood, and Trine are all tied for the #2 spot, with the tiebreaker slotting them at their current rankings.  The WCCHA and the GMHL both lead the way in conference representation, with five teams in the Rankings.

Northeast

There was no change in the top 13 teams in the Northeast this past week, as there were only two games amongst Northeast teams.  UNCHL were the only teams playing.  Fredonia State moved from #15 to #14 after beating last week’s #20 Geneseo. This drop #15 Vermont one spot.  #19 Binghamton and #18 Marist College switch positions. #1 UMass-Amherst is in the top spot for the sixth time, but they have a tough 2nd semester starting in January.  It finishes with a home and home series with UNH just prior to the final rankings.

West

The West had no changes in the top 20 teams this past week.  University of Mary remains in the #1 position winning two games against Central Section #13 Saint Thomas.  #1 University of Mary appears to be locked into the top position in the rankings.  #2 Northern Colorado, #3 Northern Arizona and #4 Boise State have switched spots in previous rankings, so the #2 position could be a great battle down to the Final Ranking on February 14.
