RPI Moves to #2 in the Northeast with Wins Against Siena

Date:  Source: Super East Collegiate Hockey League

As of the latest ranking period there were some teams that shifted based on recent play. Among the teams that shifted RPI found themselves in the #2 spot behind UMass Amherst, while Northeaster slipped to #3 and UNH is riding a close #4 behind two teams they have in fact beaten this season.

With the first semester coming to a close, UNH holds a firm grasp on 1st place in the SECHL. With 11 games played they hold a true 1/2 point lead on RPI if the Engineers were to win the game they have in hand on the Wildcats. With three more wins in regulation UNH can clinch the top spot in the league. RPI has one game in hand and will have a total of 4 games to play in the second semester and should hold one of the top two spots when all is said and done. Marist was able to hold off a much improved CCSU squad in overtime last weekend to maintain a large margin in total points over 4th place Siena who has one game in hand and would need to win out their remaining 4 games and need help from Marist (and their opponents) in order to overtake them for the top spot in the quarterfinal matchups for playoffs. Army was idle last weekend who holds the 5th spot by just 2.5 points over Montclair State who has a tremendous opportunity in the second semester to make up some serious ground with 6 league games to play in the second half (RPI,Siena,CCSU, Sacred Heart, and Army X's 2). However Montclair State can only climb as high as the #3 spot realistically looking at the schedules for all teams and could finish out of the playoffs if they trend in the wrong direction. As stated earlier, CCSU is trending in the right direction with tight games and a few non league wins in recent weeks. The Blue Devils have 6 games remaining as well and sit 4 total points behind #7 Sacred Heart (8 Points tied with Montclair) with only 3 more league games left to play. The road to playoffs seems ripe with drama as the SECHL heads down the stretch.

Have a good break everyone we will see you after the new year. Happy Holidays.
