Temiscaming Titans @ New Tecumseth Civics

12.06.18- Civics 5, Titans 3

The Civics rode a hot performance from goalie Artur Veiber and offensive stars Vadim Shatunov and Reingold Shtemke to a 5-3 win over the visiting Temiscaming Titans in GMHL action Thursday night at the New Tecumseth Rec Centre.

The game actually began rather quickly with the visiting team up 2-0 thanks to goals from Brock Ledoux and Erik Lilliecreutz and it appeared to be a long night for Civics fans, that was however until recently signed Civic Johnny Beaulieu was able to beat Titans netminder Timothe Cachard for his first with the team as the Civics showed signs of life. The Civics would continue to play hard in the first period and the goals would come as Vadim Shatunov connected with just over two minutes left and then Roman Kulakov found twine on a last second shot to send the Civics into the break with a 3-2 despite initially trailing by two goals.

The second period would see the Titans tie it up for the final time when Julien Vogt scored just 4 minutes into the frame however Arvid Sjogren would secure the lead once more with the eventual game winner only a minute later in an otherwise non-noteworthy middle stanza.

Despite chances from both teams late into the third period neither team was able to score a goal until the dying seconds of the game when Vadim Shatunov took the puck from the Titans, who had pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, and fired it down the net into the empty cage for the insurance empty netter.

Shtemke finished with assists on 4 of the Civics goals to finish as the games 3rd star and leading scorer, while the games 1st Star Shatunov had 3 points including 2 goals. Kulakov rounded out the multi point scoring with a goal and an assist of his own while Zdenek Fabry had 2 points as the only Titan with multiple in the contest.

Veiber started and finished the game earning the games 2nd star stopping 38 of 41 on the way to victory while Titans goalie Cachard would make 27 saves in defeat for Temiscaming giving up 4 goals and on the bench for the empty netter.

New Tecumseth Civics @ Bradford Rattlers

12.09.18- Civics 1, Rattlers 5

The Civics travelled just down the road and despite the short travel were caught with “bus legs” as they were unable to find their stride until the third period falling to the Rattlers 5-1 at the BWG Leisure Centre.

The 1st and 2nd  periods went about the same with the Rattlers taking advantage of a Civics team that were unable to get anything going through the first two periods, the Rattlers were able to score 5 in this time fream on Civics goalie Brock Machholz including the 1st of the season with the Rattlers for Adam Suchmoer and the game winning goal from Brayden Morris (his 4th game winner of the campaign) both of which came in the first.

The Civics were able to finish off the game strong though as Roman Kulakov scored

After a scoreless third period and overtime frame this one would need to be decided by a shootout, through 7 rounds of shootout both Allan Menary and Brock Machholz were perfect. The stage was set in the 8th round when after the Civics missed their opportunity Gudaitis went down the ice for his turn and buried on Machholz for the eventual game winner.

Gudaitis had 2 goals in the game and for the Civics Reingold Shtemke had a goal and an assist as they were the multi-point scorers in this one. Menary turned away 25 of 27 picking up the games second star and the win while Machholz was dialed in for the second game in a row making 31 saves despite taking the loss.
