WMBL Homerun leader Riley MacDonald signs with Cardinals


The Hamilton Cardinals are pleased to announce the signing of WMBL Home run record holder Riley MacDonald (Vancouver)

The 6’2” MacDonald played last summer with the Brooks Bombers (WMBL) breaking the single season record for homerun’s with 20. Riley finished the season with an average of .362 (50-138) 13 2b’s 1 3b, 20 hr’s 49 rbi’s. At the end of the season Riley spent 6 games with the Quebec Capitaels of the Can Am League. Riley graduated from Waldorf University in 2018 and in his senior year hit .309 (56-181) with 13 2b’s, 6 hr’s and 21 rbi’s.

“We are extremely excited to bring a middle of the lineup bat like Riley into Hamilton this season, he also gives Coach Castelli flexibility with an ability to play both corner infield spots, dh and also catch.” said GM Jeff Lounsbury. “The raw power and ability to hit for average will make our lineup even more dangerous and deeper.”

Riley will be coming to Ontario from British Columbia and is “excited for the opportunity that the Cardinals have given me. Looking forward to competing and building on the late season playoff success.”

The Hamilton Cardinals are members of Ontario’s most elite baseball league, The Intercounty Baseball League. The 101 year old summer league is one of the oldest baseball leagues in the world, established in 1919.
