11/30/18: Slippery Rock University vs West Virginia University

Friday, Men’s Club Ice Hockey at Slippery Rock University hosted WVU in a CHMA matchup following thanksgiving break.

Puck drop was 10:00pm, The first period opened the game with 7 goals. WVU got the early lead with just .25s into the first period, Goal scored by A.Avallone assisted by C.Cosgrove. Soon after SRU would get an equalizer getting some 2nd line scoring from Luke Grossman at 3:58 into the period assisted by N. Ryckman and C. Miller. WVU would bounce back and get two goals, one scored by J.Judis assisted by W.Murphy and another scored by R.Zujkowski assisted by J.Bartholow and B.Zienty. Both teams battling hard into the first Slippery Rock comes back with help from the defense, goal scored by Shane Riley assisted by N.Mettenburg and J.Seibert. With just a few moments after stepping out of the box, Nathaniel Mettenburg sends a puck to the back of the net assisted by J.Mauro. To finish out the period WVU would squeeze on top with goal scored by J.Judis assisted by T.Richardson and A.Avallone .

After 1 period of play, SRU 3 – WVU 4

Going into the 2nd both teams battled hard keeping the scoring at just one goal for the period being scored in favor of Slippery Rock. Antonio Esposito would get the goal unassisted. After 2 periods we are all tied up going into the 3rd.

With the 3rd under way SRU gets the go-ahead goal being scored by Thomas Kimmick assisted by J. Mauro. Then just .29s later Antonio Esposito would get the Rock up by 2, assisted by T.Kimmick and J.Mauro. SRU would keep up the hard work to get help from the backend as Shane Riley would get his second of the night. WVU look to not back down as they would get another goal from E. Keefe assisted by J.Shuttner and J.Sawyer. WVU would pull their goalie and Nathaniel Mettenburg would eventually tap in the goal to seal the deal.

Final Score: Slippery Rock 8  WVU 5

Slippery Rock travels to Buffalo to take on Canisius in an outdoor game at River Works.

12/1/18: Slippery Rock University vs Canisius College

On Saturday, the boys had a late night and early morning as they headed to Buffalo at 8am to take on Canisius after getting the win against WVU.

Both teams battled in the beginning of the first period, but the Rock would get the only goal of the period from J. Mauro assisted by T. Kimmick. After the period Slippery Rock with 16 shots and Canisius with 20.

After eight minutes in the 2nd, Canisius would get the equalizer from T. Flick assisted by J. Werner and A. Mazgaj. Soon after, SRU would score 3 goals to take the lead to end out the period. Goals scored by C. Miller assisted by J. Haines and S. Patt, and N. Mettenburg assisted by K.Koett and B. Ackelson and third goal of the period from J. Mauro assisted by R. Swinderman and L. Grossman.

The third was still a battle as Slippery Rock look to maintain the lead with T. Kimmick scoring unassisted. Following, Canisius would score a powerplay goal from M. Wisotzke assisted by G. Aldridge and J. Werner. To seal the deal J. Mauro would put the sixth goal for the Rock with 1:12 left in the 3rd.

The Rock sweeps the weekend of play and look towards a tough matchup and CHMA match up next weekend between RMU and IUP.
