ELKVILLE, IL - The Cape Catfish have added  Evan Martin, a 6'0", 170-pound, athletic outfielder from St. Charles Missouri and a freshman at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale to their 2019 roster.

A 2018 graduate of Parkway South high school in Manchester, Missouri, the 19-year-old Martin has recently been ranked by Perfect Game and Prep Baseball Report as being among the top-5 outfielders in Missouri.

Martin's various honors and accolades include; 2018 Preseason All American, Central Region HM, 2016 and 2017 Preseason Underclass All-American honors and has a Perfect Game Grade of 8. IN 2017 Martin was named to three All-Tournament Teams to include; the 2017 17U WWBA Elite Round Robin tournament; the 2017 WWBA 2018 Grads or 17U National Championship and 2017 17U PG Super 25 National Championship.

The scouting report on Martin, a left-handed hitting and throwing outfielder, is that he runs a 6.90 SEC 60-year-dash, which puts him among the top 5 percent submitted to Perfect Game.

At the plate, Martin has a swing with a plus max barrel speed that produces line drives up the middle, with solid consistent contact during batting practice. He has an athletic stance with the minimum load and no wasted movement. He has loose hands with a good feel for the barrel.

In the outfield, Martin has a plus arm with an 84 MPH positional velo with a high three-quarters arm slot. He has a short and quick release and makes accurate throws most of the time.

SIU-Carbondale head coach Ken Henderson had this to say about Martin when he committed to SIU, "Evan gives us another extremely athletic outfielder, one who has a very good swing from the left side. We absolutely love his passion for the game; he is the baseball equivalent of a gym rat-someone who never seems to get enough baseball. His personality and mental approach are contagious and we can't wait to get him in a Saluki uniform."

Scout's take, "The addition of Martin to the Catfish roster gives Cape a top of the lineup bat and an athletic outfielder with plus speed and a plus arm, capable of playing any of the outfield positions."
