The Burlington Cougars are pleased to announce that we will be well-represented at the 2018 Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge. The Cougars will be sending 5 players and 3 staff members to the event, which will once again be held in Quinte West from November 19-21.

On the ice, Burlington will send its best to the event with goaltender Matthew Dunsmoor, defenseman Clark Hiebert, and forwards Matthew Hobbs, Jeff Burridge and Keanan Stewart all being selected to take part. Dunsmoor, Burridge and Stewart will all suit up for Team Hawerchuk, while Hobbs will represent the Cougars on Team Coffey and Hiebert has been assigned to Team Oates.

Off the ice, head coach Mark Jooris will once again be behind the bench for team Nieuwendyk, while athletic therapist Brittany Boot and equipment manager Mike Aloe will join Team Coffey and Team Oates, respectively.

In the crease, Dunsmoor is enjoying a breakout season for the Cougars. Since being re-assigned to the team from the Mississauga Steelheads of the OHL, Dunsmoor has posted a 5-4-2 record in 11 starts with a sparkling 2.12 goals-against-average and .935 save percentage.

On the back end, Hiebert has been a crucial part of the Cougars defense corps. The Oakville, ON native has suited up for 20 games with the Cougars and is the team’s top-scoring defenseman with 8 points.

Up front the Cougars will be represented by some of their top scorers in Hobbs, Burridge and Stewart. In his first full OJHL season, Hobbs has gotten off to a hot start with 13 points in 20 games, while logging key minutes on the Cougars penalty kill unit.

Burridge has also made his presence known in the Cougars top-six. The 17-year old has played in all 21 games this season and is currently 5th on the team with 12 points.

Lastly, the Cougars will also be sending their top scorer to the event in Keanan Stewart. The 6’3’’ forward has posted 21 points thus far and is tied for the team lead in both goals (7) and assists (14).

The entire Burlington Cougars organization congratulates the hard work and dedication of our entire team and staff, and looks forward to watching all of these individuals excel at the Eastern Canada Cup All-Star Challenge later this month.
