Date: Oct 9, 2025
Over the last three weekends Long Beach State has picked up three wins to tie Loyola Marymount for first place in the WCHC.
The first was a rematch of last seasons championship game against Cal State Northridge on October 27th at the Simi Valley Iceoplex. Ryan Osterkamp opened the scoring but Eli Berengut tied the game before the end of the first period for the Matadors. The 49ers got the only two goals of the middle frame from Ryan Schlerf and Francis Lemay to go up 3-1. Jaime Velasquez struck back for CSUN in the third but Austin Stanovich put The Beach up again by a pair. John Michael Laurin made things interesting late but the 49ers held on.
Last weekend Long Beach State beat UC Santa Barbara 9-3 and Cal State Fullerton 7-4.
CSUN also continues to climb the standings. The night before losing to Long Beach the Matadors shut out the University of San Diego 13-0. This past weekend CSUN kept their shutout streak intact beating LMU 5-0 and 7-0.
Long Beach (5-1) and LMU (5-2) each have ten points at the top of the standings with the 49ers owning a game in hand. CSUN (4-1) only trails by two points with one game in hand to Long Beach and two to LMU.
UC San Diego (2-1) and Fullerton (2-3) are tied for fourth place with four points.
UCSB (1-1) and USD (1-6) are tied for sixth place with two points and Chapman (0-5) is in last place.
