The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) has concluded the RFP process to select an engineering firm for consulting services for the Glace Bay Arena reconstruction.

I.B. Storey Inc. was the successful engineering firm chosen as the Owner’s Engineer. The Engineering firm will be responsible for advising and assisting the project team on engineering matters during the Developer selection and finalization phase, as well as through the construction phase of the project. Next steps include the Engineer developing the design brief for the reconstruction, to be completed by early 2019, followed by the RFP process to select a Developer for the project.

Renovations to the arena will include, but are not limited to, extending the ice pad, a new ammonia plant, modifying existing geothermal system, improved building layout, roofing and cladding upgrades, electrical and lighting improvements, and plumbing upgrades.

CBRM Mayor Cecil Clarke commented, “All three levels of government and the community have come together to support this reconstruction project. This is an essential building for Glace Bay and area; CBRM is pleased to continue to support this important recreation facility and that the process is underway”.
