Gideon signs with Hamilton Cardinals for 2019

Justin Gideon has signed with the Hamilton Cardinals for the 2019 Intercounty Baseball League season.

"I have known Justin for six years, and had the opportunity to coach him both in Burlington and in University, he is such a great player and person" said Hamilton General Manager Jeff Lounsbury. ".Justin moved to Hamilton just over a year ago, and we are so lucky that he wanted to play ball in this great city of Hamilton."

Gideon played for the Burlington Herd for the past four seasons earning IBl All-Star honours three times. In four seasons he batted .345 (226-for-656) in 160 career regular season and playoff games. He registered 110 RBI with 39 doubles, eight triples and 28 homeruns while scoring 147 runs and adding 64 stolen bases.

His best season came in the summer of 2017 when he finished among tops in the league with a .435 average going 60-for-138 in 32 games. That season he added a career high 60 hits, 13 doubles, 8 homeruns and 38 runs scored to go along with 27 RBI and 18 stolen bases.

"Fans will fall in love with Justin's heart and hustle," said Lounsbury. "We would like to thank the Welland franchise in allowing Justin the opportunity to play at home as well."

The move from Burlington to Welland created more travel for Gideon who now lives in Hamilton. Thus, the Welland franchise allowed Justin to play in his hometown and the two teams came to an arrangement that benefited both.

“I believe this team and organization is heading in the right direction and I’m incredibly excited to be joining the Cardinals," said Gideon. "The team has seen some success and after speaking with the GM it is clear that they have now set their sights higher in the standings, something that was important for me. I’m looking forward to playing a critical role in helping them achieve that goal of propelling into the upper echelon of the league."

The Cardinals will be announcing new signings shortly, and season tickets are now available. Just call Carmen's Box Office 905-387-0007 to reserve.
