Sunday’s tilt between the Waterloo Siskins and the Kitchener Dutchmen was the third time these two teams have met this season with Waterloo taking the first two victories. Missing a few regulars due to injury and sickness, Waterloo dropped a 4-3 OT decision to Kitchener leaving Waterloo in a horserace for first place in the Midwest Conference, neck and neck with Stratford and Listowel just 14 games into the 48 game regular season.

Waterloo Siskin forward BRETT SCHAEFER opened the scoring at 2:20 of the first period (Photo #1 of Oct 28, 2018 Album) giving Waterloo an early lead however Kitchener responded two minutes later to tie the game. Both teams exchanged goals in the second period with BRETT SCHAEFER scoring his second goal of the game on a Waterloo power play.

Tied at 2-2, Waterloo put on a huge push in the 3rd period firing 22 shots at Kitchener netminder LUCAS PATTON (Photo #2 of Oct 28, 2018 Album) who put in a strong performance for the Dutchies. Waterloo Captain ALEX CIMINO tied the game up for Waterloo with a few minutes left in the third frame sneaking in from the point, burying a great pass from Siskins’ ALEX LYCETT (Photo #3 of Oct 28, 2018 Album).   In overtime, CIMINO took a cross checking penalty within the first minute and Kitchener quickly capitalized on the 4 on 3 power play.  Waterloo outshot Kitchener 38 to 34 in the game.

Saturday night, in Elmira facing the Sugar Kings, Waterloo fell to a 5-0 deficit - five minutes into the second period. Waterloo got back on track in the last half of the game however could not overcome their poor start, losing 6-3 at the hands of Elmira. Waterloo defenseman DOMINICK DIPONIO was a bright spot for the Siskins in the game scoring two goals in a losing cause.

Waterloo plays 3 big games this weekend and hopes to rebound from last weekend’s effort.  Waterloo plays in Stratford Friday and Elmira Saturday before returning home to the WMRC SUNDAY AT 1:30 TO FACE THE LISTOWEL CYCLONES WITH 1ST PLACE ON THE LINE.
