The Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Burlington Cougars and Brampton Admirals will help drop the puck on Burlington’s Rogers Hometown Hockey weekend this month.

Tara Slone, who co-hosts Hometown Hockey with Ron MacLean, will take part in opening ceremonies to begin the OJHL game Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Appleby Arena.

This game is also Pink in the Rink night in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and Cougars apparel.

Now in its fifth season, Hometown Hockey features the community it visits during its Sunday NHL broadcast on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet 360, highlighting local culture, hockey history and unique stories.

The free celebration of hockey will feature three days of live entertainment, NHL alumni, local celebrities and hockey-themed activities, according to the Burlington Post.

The weekend activities wraps up with an outdoor viewing party of the NHL game between the Ottawa Senators and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Hometown Hockey will visit in the midst of the Gift of Giving Back food drive, the Post reported.

The largest food drive in Canada was started by Burlington Eagles hockey teams and has since expanded to include numerous sports, community and school groups in three cities. It has collected more than 575,000 pounds of food in each of the last two years and more than 2.6-million pounds since it began in 2005.

"We are thrilled to host Rogers Hometown Hockey in Burlington,” said Mayor Rick Goldring. “It's not every day we get to showcase our beautiful city to the rest of Canada.”

Rogers Hometown Hockey is looking for volunteers to help with various aspects of the events in downtown Burlington on Oct. 27 and 28. Deadline to apply is Oct. 21. Email sports@burlington.ca for more information.

Aurora – and its OJHL Tigers – will be featured during Hometown Hockey Dec. 8 and 9.
