Adrian College Maintains Top Spot in Men's D-I Ranking

UNION LAKE, Mich. – (October 10, 2018) – Adrian College, the defending Men's Division I National Champions of the American Collegiate Hockey Association, received 32 out of 33 first-place votes to maintain the top spot in the 2018-2019 ACHA Men's Division I Ranking, No. 2. 

 

The Bulldogs thrashed Rochester College in a pair of home-and-home Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League conference games (8-1, 12-2).  Lindenwood University jumped all the way up to the No. 2 spot after an impressive road sweep over Robert Morris University Illinois.  The Lions won 5-1 on Friday before pummeling the Eagles 10-0 on Saturday to improve to 4-0-0 on the season.  The University of Illinois held the No. 3 spot after sweeping Illinois State University at the Big Pond in Champaign, Ill.  The Fighting Illini improved to 3-0-0 after a 4-0 win on Friday and a 4-1 win on Saturday.  Ohio University improved to 4-0-0 after walloping border rival West Virginia and received the other first place vote.  The Bobcats won 12-1 on Friday in the friendly confines of Bird Arena in Athens, OH before traveling to Morgantown, W. Va. on Saturday and posting an 11-1 win.  Minot State University fell three spots this week to round out the Top 5.  The Beavers lost on the road to in-state rival University of Jamestown 3-2 on Thursday night before squeaking out a 2-1 (2-0) overtime shootout victory on Saturday back in Minot, N.D.

 

The Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (6) and the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (5) lead the way with all of its member teams ranked, while the Western Collegiate Hockey League has six (of 8) of its member teams ranked, and the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League has three (of 8) of its member teams ranked.

 

Over the past 16 seasons, 12 different schools have won the ACHA Men's Division I National Championship: Lindenwood (3), Central Oklahoma (2), Illinois (2), Adrian, Arizona State, Davenport, Delaware, Minot State, Oakland, Ohio, Penn State, and Rhode Island.

 

Entering its 28th season of action, there have been a total of 14 schools that have won the ACHA Men's Division I National Championship:

  • Ohio (4)
  • Lindenwood (3)
  • Central Oklahoma (2)
  • Illinois (2)
  • North Dakota State (2)
  • Adrian
  • Arizona State
  • Davenport
  • Delaware
  • Iowa State
  • Minot State
  • Oakland
  • Rhode Island

 

A total of 60 teams will compete in Men’s Division I this season, including two new teams: the University of Toledo and William Paterson University. The two teams departing Men’s Division I include Midland University and Saint Bonaventure University.

 

The computer ranking, which will not commence until after November 1, will for the sixth time determine the 20 teams that qualify for the 2019 ACHA Men's Division I National Championships, which will include the following six autobids:

 

  • (CHMA) College Hockey Mid-America (PLAYOFF CHAMPION)
  • (ECHA) Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION)
  • (ESCHL) Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION)
  • (GLCHL) Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League (REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION)
  • (NECHL) Northeast Collegiate Hockey League (PLAYOFF CHAMPION)
  • (WCHL) Western Collegiate Hockey League (REGULAR SEASON CHAMPION)

 

The third ranking of the regular season will be released on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

 

The 2019 ACHA Men's Division I National Championships will be hosted March 21-26 for the first time by the Dallas Sports Commission, Dallas Stars, and Dr Pepper StarCenters at the Dr Pepper Arena, in Frisco, TX. This will be the eighth year of the 20-team format.
