MINOT, ND Souris Valley Sabre Dogs’ outfielder EJ Ranel is named the Expedition League Player of the Year for on-field performance and community involvement.

The 2018 season for the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs was a magical season in the Magic City not only for the team, but for Ranel as well. He hit two home runs in his first start for Souris Valley. Ranel didn’t stop there as he led the league in on-base and slugging percentage along with being named the Triple Crown Winner leading the league in home runs, RBIs and batting average. Ranel finished the season with a .458 batting average.

EJ Ranel holds all records in each statistical category for the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs and in Expedition League and sets high expectations for the future.

“Watching EJ Ranel play was something special, head coach Corey Thompson said. “That’s an offensive performance that’s pretty hard to do.”

Along with his performance, Ranel was a star off the field as well, as he was actively involved in the community and made regular appearances and volunteered in Minot.

Before the 2018 season, Ranel attended Chattahoochee Valley Community College for two years, but recently signed at Lenoir-Rhyne University, an NCAA Division II school, on a baseball scholarship.
