Leafs win to force Game 5
Date: Aug 15, 2018
Brantford Red Sox (7th place) vs. Kitchener Panthers (2nd place)
IBL Playoffs, Round 1 Game 1
August 9, 2018
Although Brantford doesn't have home field advantage during the first round of the playoffs, they hosted the first game in the series due to the scheduled game 1 being rained out in Kitchener. Home field hasn't been an advantage for the Red Sox this season mind you, with a 4-18 record in the regular season. The season series between Brantford and Kitchener was much more evenly matched, with Kitchener edging Brantford 3 games to 2. It was also a slugfest, as the two teams combined for 63 total runs over the course of their meetings this season (33 runs for Brantford, 30 for Kitchener). Unfortunately for Brantford, the home field trend continued and the scoring trend failed to, as they dropped game 1 to Kitchener 4-0.
Starter Euclides Leyer pitched another gem for the Sox, surrendering just 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings and striking out 7. Michael Bucci pitched the last 2 innings for the Sox, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits. Brantford's bats failed to provide any run support for their pitchers, however, managing just 3 hits in the game (2 for David Mendham, 1 for Ricky Murray).
