Game 1 Goes to Copperheads

Date:  Source: Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League

In Game 1 of the championship series, strong pitching by the Copperheads proved to be the difference in a 7-2 victory against the Sugar Beets Sunday afternoon.  The Sugar Beets struck first with one run in the first inning.  But then in the third inning the Copperheads scored three runs of their own, including a home run by Ty Alderman.  The Copperheads went on to score one in the fourth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh, while their strong pitching kept the Sugar Beets from scoring.  The Sugar Beets scored one run in the ninth to make the game 7-2, but they were unable to produce more.  Copperheads’ starting pitcher Jeff Ciocco gets the win, and Chris Mutter gets the save.  Game 2 of the series will be on Tuesday, August 7th at Bob Wren Stadium in Athens, Ohio.
