Mariners Sweep the Eagles

Date:  Source: Victoria Mariners

The 5-day road trip had little effect on the boys as they once again battled their cross-town rivals. Zack Downey was surely smiling down on the Mariners as they proved to be the better team again in a 12-1 mercy of the Eagles - this season the Mariners have out scored the Eagles 38-7.

Collette was tonight’s starter and he continues to peak at the right time of the season. He had a great start in Centralia and continued to shine at Layritz. The tall right hander had the Eagles hitters off balance all night. He would pitch 5 innings allowing a single run and no earned runs with 0 walks and 4 strikeouts. Doorschot took over for 1 inning allowing 1 hit, 0 runs and 0 walks. That’s all the pitching that was needed as the hitters did the rest.

Yaoita had a stellar night with 5 hits and 3 RBI’s one of his hits was a double. Clarke had 3 hits with 1 RBI, Emile and Gale both had 2 hits one of Emile’s hits was a double. Seginowich, Mayhew and Shuta all recorded single hits. The offence scored 12 runs on 15 hits while leaving 9 runners on base. I was told that this is the first time that the Mariners have swept the Eagles in their series’. Way to go boys!

Next up the Tritons and the Chiefs visit Layritz on the 21st and 22nd respectively.
