D'Alessandro Named Signs USA Player of the Week

Charlottesville Tom Sox first baseman/DH Dom D’Alessandro has been named the Signs USA Player of the Week.

In seven games, D’Alessandro batted .400, leading the league homers (four) and RBIs (14).

He also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the All-Star Game over the previous seven-day period, giving him 15 RBIs over an eight-game span. His 46 RBIs for the season now lead the league.

He homered three times in a two-game span vs. Strasburg and Woodstock, going 6-for-12 with nine RBIs and four runs scored in those two contests.

Signs USA is sponsoring the Valley Baseball League Player of the Week for the third season in 2018.

Joe Bellini, IF, Waynesboro Generals –
Batted .467 with an on-base percentage of .619. Also ranked second in the league with 10 RBIs.

Chase Best, RP, Covington Lumberjacks – Went 2-0 with a save in three appearances. Struck out 14 in 10.0 innings, while allowing two runs.

Hogan Brown, OF, Strasburg Express – Hit .385 with three RBIs.

Andrew Eyster, OF, New Market Rebels – Led the league in slugging (1.333) and OPS (2.000) for the week. Homered twice, knocked in three runs, and scored four times.

Trey Jacobs, IF, Staunton Braves – Led the league in batting (.565), going 13-for-23. Homered twice, stole two bases, totaled five RBIs and four runs scored.

Brock Johnson, 2B/SS, Woodstock River Bandits – Went 7-for-20 at the plate (.350) and stole three bases.

Matthew Koehler, OF, Purcellville Cannons – Batted .500 with an on-base percentage of .579. Knocked in four runs in five games.

Spencer Packard, OF, Front Royal Cardinals – Slashed .360/.500/.800, homering three times. Added four RBIs and seven runs scored. Also retired the one batter he faced on the mound.

Samyr Santos, C/1B, Winchester Royals – Batted .316 and led the Royals in hits (six) and home runs (two).

Brett Whelton, C/1B, Harrisonburg Turks – Hit .500 in three games, scoring once with one RBI.
