Jackals Squeeze Past Miners, 6-5

The New Jersey Jackals took on the Sussex County Miners in the third game of a four game series.  Game three was played at Yogi Berra Stadium, whereas the rest of the series was played at Skylands Stadium. The Jackals dropped the first two games, 4-3 and 12-2, respectively.

 

David Harris started things off for the Jackals, hitting a two run homerun in the bottom of the first inning.  

 

Alex Glenn tied the game up in the top of the second after doubling to right field, bringing in Daniel Mateo and Connor Crane. 

 

The Miners extended their lead, 3-2, in the top of the fourth when Luis Alen singled, scoring Audy Ciriaco.  

 

The Jackals took the lead right back in the bottom of the fourth. Rony Cabrera hit his third homerun of the year, a two run jack to left field, which scored Kevin Torres. 

 

After a leadoff walk in the top of the sixth, Jackals starting pitcher, Mariel Checo exited the game. He finished with a line of five innings pitched, three earned runs off of three hits, five strikeouts, and five walks. 

 

John Reuttiger added to the Jackals lead in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single. Harris followed that with a single of his own, in which Connor Hoffman scored on an error from Miners relief pitcher, Kevin Grendell. 

 

The Miners threatened to score in the top of the eighth, but left two men in scoring position. 

 

Jackals pitcher, Mat Latos, came in to close the game in the bottom of the ninth. After retiring the first two batters, he gave up a single to Connor Crane. Glenn then hit an RBI triple to score Crane, Glenn would go on to score on a double from Jayce Ray.

 

Latos got Jarred Mederos to fly-out to Cabrera, securing the 6-5 win for the Jackals.  

 

The Jackals will finish their series against the Miners at Skylands Stadium, tomorrow, July 15th.  The team returns back to Yogi Berra Stadium on July 17th as they take on the Trois-Rivieres Aigles for a three game series.
