LACONIA, N.H. - Chris Berry homered for the fourth time in three games, as the Upper Valley Nighthawks went on to defeat the Winnipesaukee Muskrats by a score of 5-1 on Friday evening at Robbie Mills Field.

The Nighthawks got on the scoreboard early, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. Chris Berry (University of North Florida) walked to lead off the game before Austin Wilhite (Georgia Tech) homered to give Upper Valley the early 2-0 lead.

Later in the inning, Anthony Quirion (Lamar University) singled to drive in Ross Cadena (Wichita State University)

Upper Valley struck again in the top of the sixth, when a Riley Smith (University of Minnesota) sacrifice fly scored Matt Tarabek (Fordham University) from third base.

Winnipesaukee’s Sam Cochrane countered in the home-half of the six with a solo homer, but Berry erased that progression with a solo homer in the 9th for the Nighthawks, securing the 5-1 road victory.

Upper Valley starter Brian Weissert (Fordham University) pitched 3 hitless innings and struck out two Muskrat batters. Reliever Ryan Parker (University of West Georgia) pitched the middle three frames, surrendering one run on three hits. Stephen Hansen (Iona College) and AJ Franklin (Vanderbilt University) finished up the game for the Nighthawks, giving up a combined four hits and striking out four.

The Nighthawks return home tomorrow night, playing host to the Sanford Mainers at 6:30 P.M. It will be Toy Tractor Giveaway Night, sponsored by Townline Equipment. The first 100 kids will receive a toy Kubota tractor, plus there will be real tractors on hand too!
