Alex Ierullo of the Newmarket Hurricanes (photo credit – Timothy Bates/OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division I Bemidji State Beavers beginning with the 2018-19 season.

The Minnesota school plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Former Wellington Duke Mike Soucier is entering his senior year at Bemidji.

Ierullo, who will turn 21 July 30, was the OJHL’s Kewl North-East Conference Player-of-the-Month for November after leading the league with 24 points in just 11 games.

He finished the season with 66 points (25G/41A) for the Hurricanes, who were eliminated in the second round of the OJHL playoffs by the eventual Central Canadian champion Dukes.

The native of Woodbridge had 66 points with the Toronto Young Nationals AAA midget team that won the 2015 Telus Cup national title. Ierullo had two assists in the championship game. He joined the Hurricanes the next year. After a 27-point rookie campaign, he had 41 last year.

Congratulations to Alex and best of luck in the NCAA!
