Strasburg Express designated hitter Colton Schultz has been named the Signs USA Player of the Week heading into All-Star weekend.

Schultz ranked second in the league in batting (.550, behind only teammate Hogan Brown) and first in on-base percentage (.640) and OPS (1.540). He slugged .900 for the week.

He also scored 10 runs and homered twice to pace the VBL, and his eight RBIs ranked fifth in the league over the past seven days.

Schultz went 11-for-20 over five games and led a Strasburg offense that put up 21 runs in a win over Woodstock and 13 runs in a victory vs. the Staunton Braves.

Signs USA is sponsoring the Valley Baseball League Player of the Week for the third season in 2018.

Honorable Mention:

Christian Avant, C, Front Royal Cardinals –
Tied for the league lead with 11 RBIs while homering once. Hit .478 and slugged .913 after racking up seven extra base hits in five games.

Riley Brandvold, OF, Woodstock River Bandits – Led the Bandits in batting average (.467), on-base percentage (.529) and slugging percentage (.933). Had a triple, a home run, six RBIs, and a team-best seven runs scored.

Chase Cheek, OF, Waynesboro Generals – Hit .458 on the week, with a triple, five RBIs, three stolen bases, and a team-best six runs scored.

Dom D’Allesandro, 1B, Charlottesville Tom Sox – Tied for the league lead with 11 RBIs and homered once. Batted .391 and scored seven times.

Andrew Eyster, OF, New Market Rebels – Hit .455 (10-for-22), with a home run and seven RBIs.

Brandon Hernandez, IF, Staunton Braves – Batted .429 and slugged .619. Had a home run, six RBIs, and a team-leading seven runs scored.

Bennett Hostetler, SS, Covington Lumberjacks – Led the Jacks in batting (.435), RBIs (six), hits (10) and runs scored (five).

Alex Rodriguez, SP, Harrisonburg Turks – Went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA over two starts… Struck out a combined 11 batters in wins vs. New Market and Charlottesville.

Troy Weatherly, 1B/OF, Purcellville Cannons – Hit .364 in three games with a homer and a team-best four RBIs.

Bryan Whitacre, RP, Winchester Royals – Threw four one-hit innings with a 0.00 ERA. Struck out seven of the 13 batters he faced.
