Covington’s JD Mundy has repeated as the Signs USA Player of the Week as the Virginia Tech product continues to dominate at the plate.

Mundy bashed five home runs and racked up 16 RBIs in six games. He batted .364 and also led the league with 11 runs scored.

The Jacks slugger also drew eight walks/HBPs for an on-base percentage of .533. He slugged a league-best 1.045.

Covington went 5-1 on the week and has the league’s best overall record by two games over Front Royal. Mundy’s 10 home runs are double anyone else in the league, and his 31 RBIs outpaces the field by 11.

Signs USA is sponsoring the Valley Baseball League Player of the Week for the third season in 2018.

Honorable Mention:

Alex Brait, C/OF, Waynesboro Generals –
Led the Generals in batting (.450), RBIs (seven) and runs (five), with a triple and a home run.

Andrew Burden, 1B/OF, Front Royal – Batted .455 with 10 RBIs and three home runs. Did not strike out all week.

David Dunn, RP, Strasburg Express – Went 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in three relief appearances. Struck out nine in six innings pitched while allowing just two hits.

Jordan Huntley, OF, Winchester Royals – Homered once and led the Royals with seven RBIs for the week.

Zach Little, IF, Harrisonburg Turks – Hit .333 and led the Turks with five RBIs.

Sergio Lopez, OF/1B, Purcellville Cannons – Totaled three homers and 10 RBIs. Also added a triple while slugging .739.

Daniel Sweeney, SP, New Market Rebels – Went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA- struck out nine in a six inning winning performance, retiring 18 of 22 batters.

Luke Jackson, OF, Staunton Braves – Led the league in batting average (.533) and ranked second in on-base percentage (.563).

Jared Weatherbee, RP, Charlottesville Tom Sox – Went 1-0 in two hitless appearances, striking out eight in four innings of work.

Connor Wilson, OF, Woodstock River Bandits – Batted .364 and led his team with seven RBIs and five runs scored.
