Spence, Wood Lead Comeback Blazers Past Tugmen in Playoff Opener

Date:  Source: Victoria Senior Lacrosse League

Whoa, nelly. What a game. If you missed out, it’s not too late – there is more lacrosse action tonight, and over the next couple weeks, but jeez, last night’s game was one to remember. Blazer Nation was trailing to a star studded Tugmen squad for virtually the entire game. They occasionally pulled the score even, only to see the Tugmen pull away with another lead. After trailing late in the game, veteran snipers Cody Boon (1G 4A), Bryan Reeve (2G), Julian Spence (4G 1A) and Chris McAulay (1G 2A) all notched goals to keep the best dressed team in BC alive, forcing overtime. In the extra frame, rookie Nick Arthur (2G) added to the Blazers cause, helping the good guys steal the win.

Rounding out the winning effort for the Blazers were excellent efforts at both ends of the floor from Tory Spiteri (3A), Aaron Roberts (2A), Trenton Douglas (2A), Adam West Patrick (1A), Jeremy Bell, Lorne Sam, Vinny Sam, Zack Smith, and Nick Falkiner. Out of the lineup were captain Kurt Bronson, Pat Falkiner, Greer Koch, Brian Ho-Yee and Riccardo Suter.

Victoria Blazers “Kool and The Gang” Three Stars:

1) Julian Spence (4G 1A)
2) Rob Wood (40 saves)
3) Chris McAulay (1G, 2A, too many faceoff wins to count)

The Blazers now advance to the winners bracket of the playoff format, facing the Victoria Jokers tonight at 7:30 pm at Archie Browning Arena in Esquimalt. The Jokers earned their spot on the winning side with their own nail biter of a game, holding on to a 6-5 win over the Arrows. Admission is free, so come check it out. Brown bagging adult beverages is your choice and not at all our responsibility.
