Liam Kirk has been drafted by NHL side Arizona Coyotes 189th overall during today’s event in Dallas.

The teenager from Rotherham was picked in the seventh round and will begin his dream of competing in the NHL.

And he admits he was lost for words as he heads into the next exciting stage of his career.

“I don’t have any words for [being drafted], I’m just very excited and really emotional,” he said.

“I’ve been waiting for it and when it finally happened it was an amazing feeling.”

Kirk has spent the last two seasons with Sheffield Steelers, becomes the third Brit to be selected in the Draft after Tony Hand and Colin Shields and the first born in England.

He also enjoyed a great season playing for Great Britain, winning two gold medals with the Under 20’s and full senior men’s sides.

Now he’ll embark on rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s top players as he looks to cement a place in the league, known as “The Show.”
