HARTFORD, VT—Coming off their worst loss of the season and an end to a four-game win streak, the Waves were looking to once again get back in the win column. On a beautiful Father’s Day, the Waves (6-5) split a doubleheader with Upper Valley (7-3).

Ocean State got off to a fast start in Game One. Two singles led to two runs home in the first. After the Nighthawks got one back, Dylan Resk cracked his second home run of the season, a two-run moonshot, to give the Waves a 4-1 advantage.

But Upper Valley had a strong response, tallying two runs in both the third and the fourth innings to take the lead by one. That started the chess match. The Waves posted two more runs in the fifth on a Ryan Ward single to retake the lead. Then the Nighthawks tied it in the sixth.

With a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh, Ryan Ward smacked a one-out single to right field. Then Grant English subbed in for Casey Dana with two away and worked a walk to push the winning run to scoring position. On the very next pitch, Sonny Ulliana roped a double to bring Ward home.

Liam McArthur got out of an early-season slump going 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Corey Sawyer was the winning pitcher, finishing with an inning and two-thirds of hitless ball.

After the 7-6 victory, Ocean State was looking to carry that momentum into the second contest of the afternoon. The first inning began the same way with two singles to score LT Struble, but that was all the offense the Waves would manage.

Ryan Stark made his season debut on the mound and saw three runs come across in the second. Upper Valley never looked back and won 6-1.

Dylan Resk started each of the two games batting ninth and went 4-for-6 combined to get his average back up to .304 on the season.

The Waves have off on Monday, but the team is back on the road to face Danbury on Tuesday at 6:30.
