Mainers, Lops Announce 2024 Coaching Staff

The Vermont bats finally woke up at Joe Wolfe Field Sunday afternoon in a Father’s Day matchup between the Mountaineers and the North Adams SteepleCats.The nine run, 15 hit charge was led by Liam McGill (Wakefield, RI/ Columbia) and Bryce Kelley (Rockford, MI/ Michigan State), each contributing three hits. Also adding to the offensive attack was Straton Podaras (Glen Head, NY/ Radford), who went 2-4 with a 2-run homerun and 3 RBI’s.
Vermont got off to a hot start in the top of the first, plating three runs on singles by Chase Achuff (St. Petersburg, FL/ Eckerd), Nate Grys (Sterling Heights, MI/ Western Michigan), Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/ Keystone) and Brett Malm (Medford, NY/ Adelphi).
After six innings, it was 6-1 Vermont. The Mountaineers would add two more in the seventh courtesy of Podaras’ second home run on the year, a two run blast to left center, which extended the Mountaineers lead to 5. They also tacked on two in the top of the ninth, giving them a 9-3 lead.
Indigo Diaz (North Vancouver, BC/ Michigan State) looked good in his first start of the year for the Mountaineers, picking up his first win of the year. Diaz threw six innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out four. After Zach Lutner (Sicklerville, NJ/ Villanova) recorded one out in the 7th, Levi Abrahamson (Mountain Home, ID/ Missouri Western) came in and recorded the last 8 outs, missing a save by one out. He pitched 2 2/3 innings, only allowing one hit and striking out two.
The loss for the SteepleCats went to Cameron Kovachik. He lasted only four innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, while striking out two.
With the win, Vermont stands four games back of first place Upper Valley (7-3).
Vermont (3-7) has a day off Monday, and will return to action Tuesday when they host Sanford (6-3). First pitch is set to start at 6:30, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240-AM WSKI or online via The NECBL Broadcast Network.
